Default STS Questions

ive read through all of the stickies and im really contemplating on buying a turbo. im not looking for an insane amount of boost, just something to get me in the 440ish area safely and still be a good DD. my engine is completely stock for now. its a 99 Trans Am A4 with 139k miles on it. what would i need to upgrade on the sts kit and engine wise. im only looking to push about 5-6lbs of boost and i dont have too big of a leadfoot so im not going to be using it all the time, just something to have fun with every now and then and still have decient MPG's. can anyone help me out on what i will need?

Engine...Fuel pump, 42# injectors, chromemoly pushrods, stiffer valvesprings, tr6 sparkplugs, dyno tune. Sts kit better coldside clamps, bracket for turbo, oil line return, pcv switch. Im sure there's more but that's all I can think of for the moment

what i read was 60lb injectors to be safe, 42's are for superchargers. and to use a catch can instead of the pcv system.

The different sized injectors aren't for different types of forced induction, they are for how much fuel you will be using. For what you are wanting, 42# injectors would supply enough fuel.

This is a very rough calcuator you can use if you dont know all of the info.

Yea I saw the formula in the sticky and it showed that superchargers use smaller injectors compared to turbos. I knew that they weren't for different types but it seemed like a 42 on a SC would be about a 60 on a turbo

With our fuel pressure 42# is more like 50# I run 42# and 80% duty @ 9lbs. 480rwhp and 505 rwtq but if you are thinking for future builds or e85 go with 60#.

nope future builds are way out of the picture right now so ill stick with 42# i just dont want to over work them but if your at 80% at 9lbs then i will be good. i also want a different intercooler because i dont want to lose my fog lights with the FMIC that comes with it

im also thinking of going with forged rods and pistons. i found a good priced set of wiseco -15cc 3.903 bore pistons and im trying to figure out if it is a good set for what im wanting to do. i know i will need to bore out my block (really dont want to do that) but i havent found a decient set that will go in the stock bore

Have a mechanic do a compression and leak down test. If they check out I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage.

You will get a lead foot trust me I did ha. And instead of an innercooler what about adding a meth kit? And as long as the engine has not been abused with the proper tuning you should be safe.

get a 67mm turbo and you will make ~480 with the stock cam likely, if you have an aftermarket good cam you will make ~515 or so.

check out my build. make sure to get a ball bearing turbo.

I think I have the measurements in my thread somewhere for the max size you can mount an IC in-between the fog lights. as far as STS... I'm not sure on their scavenge pump, they may have a better one now, I know the kit has gone through several revisions.
PCV... yeh catch can. I even went as far as venting the oil fill cap & venting through the newer LS6 center valley & venting the driver side rear valve cover.
