Default Reinforcing front bumper with intercooler install

I couldn't find much searching for it, but I was wondering what (if anything) people were doing to reinforce the front bumper when the factory metal support is removed for a front mount intercooler install? I know Burkhart Chassis sells a nice piece, but I have a welder and thought maybe I could be inspired by some of your work.

Also, with the styrofoam piece gone, there isn't much supporting the bumper cover. I was just wondering how flimsy (and easily damaged) the bumper cover is without the foam? I'd hate for someone who didn't know any better to lean against the car and crack my paint or something.

Sorry if these are newb questions...thanks!

https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...r-install.html .. i havent had any problems with my set up and has been this way for three years. however i did add a strut tower brace for extra support due to cutting the front piece out. as for people leaning on the front i havent had that problem because they may as well sit on the ground as low as it sits..

Just get the burkhart piece. It is so much easier and it's only 255 shipped for it. As for the deal with people leaning on the car: Beat the brakes off of em for disrespecting your car. lol Just kidding man. Anyone who has any respect for someone and their property shouldn't be leaning on someone else's car anyways.

I might still do that, but I have a welder and am halfway decent fabricating stuff, so I figured there might be a way to reinforce the front of the car for less money.

For me it's half about rigidity of the car, and half about safety. I don't know how much the foam and factory cross brace would help in the event of a front end collision, but it seems to me it would be a lot better than nothing, which is essentially how it is now.

Get some mild steel bar stock and weld up some sort of support that still allows for the front mount intercooler is kind of what I had in mind.
