Default Procharged Cooling Issues

I know this has been discussed on many occasions, I tried to research all this before this build, but here is my issue. First, motor mods are in my sig, my cooling system is the stock radiator, stock location, with the ATI 16" puller, the little Spal puller over the charger, and two 12" Spal pushers on the front of the a/c condensor. Things have been great until lately, now I'm running around 210-220 most of the time according to the Aeroforce scanguage. The shitty dash guage reads 15 degrees cooler, wish it was right! I don't feel that comfortable at that high a temperature, but I was aiming for 185-190 with all these damn fans and a 160 thermostat. The 210-220 is pretty consistent sitting with no air flow and the A/C on, but was hoping for much lower temps. The ATI 16" puller is probably not the best choice of fan, but it came with the kit, seems to be much more efficient fans on the market, but I don't have any additional room for a space hog of a fan. Of course it has been mid-90's here in Georgia the past few days and this old street car has me concerned. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

With the fans you have on your car, you shouldn't be seeing the engine temp's you're experiencing. Are you sure the ProCharger fan is wired to be pulling air through the radiator? I've seen it wired backwards countless times. It can even push air against the radiator which then bounces off and can appear to be pulling the air through it. Bob

Bob, I'll check that the weekend, but you are right, when I first went to hook the 16" fan up, I hot wired it to check rotation and the black wire was the positive and the yellow was the ground to make it rotate correctly. I think I got it right when I built my harness, but that's an easy check to make, thanks. I was concerned with the stock radiator and wanting some examples of operating temperatures others with similar setups may be seeing.

I heard running a 160 deg thermostat in these aluminum block engines isn't that great of an idea as it will heat soak the coolant since it runs through the engine more often that a 180 thermostat will. Any truth to that?

I have never heard of that before, and to me it doesn't even make sense. Bob

All I have is a single spal 16" fan and my temps get up to 205 on the aeroforce scan gauge in a standstill with the a/c on. A lot of it has to do with intercooler placement and keeping the plastic dam on the bottom to direct airflow up while driving. If your intercooler is too far back it can heat up the incoming air, also ditch the ati fan for this spall one it is a beast. You shouldnt need pushers and pullers both if your fans are moving the right cfm

99bluebird, what part number is that spal fan you have? I have heard not to get the extreme, say they don't last.

seal your condensor to your radiator with some foam tape. the pusher fans push air thru the condensor and out the sides and top if not sealed. I using 2 10" pushers 1 19" puller. no problems here

The most I've seen is about 209 in stop and go traffic with A/C on and a heat soaked car. Most of the time it stays around 195 or so. My car has a 170 stat and dual Spal fans with Sd-concepts aluminum shroud. Fan turn on temps are like Fan1 192, Fan2 196.
