To be honest, either one will do what you want. The Procharger units tend to be more popular.

if you buy it new from either ATI (makers of procharger) or Vortec..make sure you specify you want the NON helical gear set (i believe i'm right on the names)..the helical gear sets are'nt as loud and are stealthy...but if you like me..then you want your S/C to wake the dead

Ilovechevy1, what boost cam is that?
Prochargers are more popular on our cars, I personally have a vortech kit and it's solid aswell. I would do a procharger kit if my car didn't already have the vortech kit when I bought it though.

both seem to work well, however procharger system looks a lot better..And like mentioned before they tend to be a little more popular here on tech..Probably why I bought one...

To be honest my powerdyne unit whined more than my procharger p1sc the power thing the procharger has it by long shot. The vortechs seem to be better on price though I couldn't tell you how well they do on power never seen them in action they don't seem bad though, but I'd go for procharger!

when i bought my car the procharger and cam where already installed..i'm not sure of the exact cam specs but the guy i bought it from (who was the original owner btw) said procharger recomended this cam for the setup..i never thought to get the specs from him..dont' think of me as another one of those guys who bought his car already built...it was fast when i got it but now it's waaaay faster lol..a low milage (46k at the time) SS camaro being bought from the original owner for only 12.9K that already had a Procharger, cam, and full exhaust installed was a no brainer for me..especially considering this Procahrger kit new sells for $6,600 last time i checked

i wasnt trying to be an *** ....i am really biased when it comes to certain brands etc and i know alot of people use them, one reason is they are cheaper but mainly the procharger i believe is capable of producing more power and better design with the intercoolers. the procharger though still could be better designed but its like thast with any system

My apologies, I thought I used the instead of the . Not trying to be a dick by any means, and your right, the Pro Charger will deffinitely make more power. Hell, they were the only ones to offer an upgraded head unit for guys n gals that actually might have wanted more than what the entry level blower is capable of .

Ilovechevy1, That was a great come up!
Prochargers are a good setup for f bodies. And slot of vette guys run vortech headunits. Both systems are capable of making good power. It's just not beneficial to have a head unit in place of the power steering which gives hood clearance issuses and being forced to run an a2w intercooler setup. And ontop of all that, it covers the motor itself.

I think the op should take into consideration the fact that vortec no longer produces the kits for his car. The fact that the op would have to buy a used kit wouldn't be much of a problem but if something were missing or if something is broke or breaks on the kit he may have a hard time finding the nessecary replacement parts. It could be something small that could cause a substantial amount of down time. The procharger kits are a little more $ but I think it is justifiable with the ease of mind knowing that odd parts are quick and easy to come by. I wouldn't base my decision on price alone but instead look at the ability to keep the system running if something were to break. And plus Prochargetr are an easy upgrade from say p-1sc-1 to a d-1sc, just a head unit swap which also can be found relatively cheap. Just my opinion though. God luck with whichever way you decide to go.
