5.3L Monte SS
I want to keep the A/C which really complicates things in this car. None of the exhaust manifolds will clear the A/C suitcase when they are flipped up (to clear the a/c compressor) so it looks like I`m building logs/headers. Thats not an issue.
The issue I`m having now is downpipe size. I had been looking into doing a single master power 70mm. When I started looking at downpipe plumbing it looks like it would be a nightmare to get a 3" downpipe in without it hitting the control arm or melting the a/c suitcase.
If I run dual turbo`s say 55mm could I use 2.5" downpipes? those look like they will easily clear both sides.
I`m not looking to make killer power. I`m keeping a stock motor, maybe adding a ls6 cam. If I had 500-600 at the wheels that would be perfect.
I moved the lower mount back to clear the a/c compressor (you have to notch the k-member to get it in there). The motor sits with the bellhousing right where the SBC bellhousing was.(you have to remove the rearmost passenger side coil mount boss off the valvecover, trim the coilmount bracket, and notch the heaterbox slightly) The good news is that positioning the engine like that allows a stock f-body oil pan to clear the frame (its tight though, like a 1/4" in some places) It also allows the truck power steering pump and pulley to clear the steering box. I should also have clearance between the alternator and hood, but I haven`t checked that yet.
What about fuel pump setup? Is a walbro 255 or an aeromotive 340 stealth enough to feed a 5.3l t70 single turbo motor? Or do I need to step up to twin intank pumps???
