Arrow Ughh another 243 head thread.. to use or not..turbo

After looking over alot of posts about the 243s, im still up in the air about it. So I figured id make a post with my setup and goal. So im going to be putting this into my fox body and pulling my nitrous motor. I picked up a 6.0 lq4, going to run stock crank, RaceProvenMotorsports custom turbo cam, aftermarket rods & pistons. TC78 Turbo, LS2 intake. Now I was planning on taking my heads off the nitrous motor. I didnt build the motor but was told they were ported (243). Was told they flow like AFR 225. But is it worth taking them off or would I be better going with another head? My goal with this setup is 700+whp through TH400 tranny. Then after i get the car setup well and a few extra dollars im going to go with a bigger & better turbo and fuel system and look for 1000whp. Let me know what ya's think.

It's all about money on this one. If you don't have a spare $2k for good aftermarket heads, run what you have. They'll work fine as long as they yield a compression ratio that suits your fuel options. If you have the $$ and want a reliable 1000hp in the future, an aftermarket head with a thick deck will be better suited.

I would be more concerned about a TC78 and trying to make that power. I would go with a better turbo. S480, Precesion 7675GTS, PT88 etc etc

Yea I have been on the ropes about the turbo, back and forth if i should get rid of it now or later. This is a street / strip car. I was hoping for 700 wheel with the turbo. I got the TC78 cus it was a good deal and i got a good deal on the fuel system aswell, areomotive 1000 pump, 72# delphi injectors, and boost fuel press reg. So i was going to run this setup for a while.

As far as money for heads, No i cant see myself spending 2K on a set of aftermarket heads to be honest. I was trying to do a somewhat budget build. Only part i knew was gonna be big money was to get the block machine and assymbled. I am still in the collecting parts phase and can always change my setup. I am waiting on ordering the pistons until i figure the heads.

Maybe i should sell the 78 and fuel system and just do it right. idk Becuase if the 78 cant do 700 wheel im going to be pissed.

It can't. I have one on my car now and will be adding another. You will be better off starting with a better turbo.

Seeing as it's going in a Fox body I would do the Precesion 7675CEA (76gts).

The only reason people change to 317 heads from 243's is to lower compression when they are already locked into a certain piston. Take your old heads off, have them cc'd, then order your pistons accordingly to get your desired compression ratio. No need to get rid of those 243's. Run an LS9 head gasket also. Great head gasket and cheap.
