Default Pics of a CAS twin turbo

Hey I'm not new to the ls1 world but I am new to the forced induction side and so I decided to finally register because I will need some help with my current project. I picked up a CAS twin turbo setup and a 8:5:1 forged shortblock that I am in the process of installing on my 1999 Trans am.

I was wondering if anyone has any pics of this type of kit installed. Also wondered if anyone has one that lives near chicagoland so I could take a look at it. I will have plent of questions to come and I will soon start a build thread when I get some pics. Any help is appreciated.

Dan

I'be done the search and looked at most threads that have anything to do with cas kits. Also mine is a bit different than the one in the link you have there. I should have been a bit more specific I'm trying to figure out how the intercooler is supposed to be mounted and which way the compressor outlets are supposed to face.

I worked with Tony D. on the first prototype kit. They're all pretty much the same though. I wish I kept my old pictures around I could show you everything that was installed.

Intercooler was mounted in from of the radiator but we had to tilt the original mount of the radiator in order to get this to fir properly.

On the compressor are you speaking to how the turbos should be clocked? Not sure what you mean there.

Have to search my pictures to see if anything still exists.

Someone has a picture out there of the radiator tilt. Here it is:

Ewwww, is that a reducer coupling on the intake side of the turbo?

Lots of compromises with that kit. First one I ever got involved with. Man that was a hell of a long time ago.

Believe me I much prefer my current one.

Yep that's exactly what it looks like. So are the turbo outlets supposed to be flocked inwards towards the motor or out towards the frame rails?

Take a look at the picture above for reference when asking questions because it helps us when we're using the same phrasing to describe a turbo.

To answer your question: Everything is clocked towards the motor.
The Turbine (hot side) waste gas inlet section is clocked towards the motor and mates up to the header.
The compressor (cold side) output/outlet is clocked towards the oil pan and routed below to mate up with the intercooler.

The previous said he used a stock k-member but recommended a tubular one. In your pics I see a tubular one. Is the stock k-member make it a pain to put in?

I never tried to install it with the stock one. I did hear that folks were able to do it but I truly don't think it's a good idea. Mine went in and out pretty easily since I took the time to use the high temperature anti seize on all bolts. The turbos get super hot and the bolts don't like to cooperate after all the heat cycles. Coating them means easy in and out.

I took the system in and out probably 5 times. I swapped to bigger turbos and popped a head gasket twice. I kept trying to crank her up more and more....story of my life.

Anyway I got good at removing it and reinstalling it. But don't kid your self. This is tight quarters in there and I don't recommend a stock K-member.

I wonder if that kit would fit on a 2nd gen V series.

Just trying to picture mount location.

I finally won't be the only one left in this world still running one these CAS twin kit. I felt so left out. Lol!

chasgiv3: I would love to have a kit like what you currently have, but my pocket much prefered the price I paid for mine several years ago . BTW, that side view pic looks like you were using t4's? what size turbos did you run with that kit? and how much max power were you able to pushed it?

Dan Holmes: Stock k-member is doable, I had a stock k when I had my CAS kit installed the first time, but a tubular would make things a lot easier, I'd say it's worth every penny for this kit. What size turbos do you have?

I hit a maximum of 689 with the bigger turbos. But that was before I went to the LQ4 motor. My LS1 motor wasn't built for boost so I had to swap it out and also went TH400. When I did that the kit wouldn't fit and the tweaking would've been massive. So I sold it. I also wanted to go a bit bigger and I was worried about choking the 408 CI motor.
