Strange cooling fan electrical issue
Strange cooling fan electrical issue The cooling fan on my car stopped turning on a little while back. At first I unplugged the fan and tested the voltage at the connector and it is good. I get more than 13.5 volts off the plug coming from the relays.
Next the fan was connected directly to the battery and it spins up okay.
I'm left wondering how I can have voltage at the connector and the fan works when plugged into the battery but not when the fan is plugged into the fan connector.
I plugged the lines together so I could also get the volt meter on there. When the fan is connected I never get voltage on the plug. Unplug the fan and immediately I get voltage again.
What the heck is going on?
I have also replaced the relays for the fan just in case something was wrong there, but I'm at a loss now. I have a Spal fan and the connections spliced the positive of the two stock fan wires into one like the Procharger instructions had specified. This has been working okay for a few years, and just now suddenly stopped.

No I don't, it is left to the stock computer control. The testing I did to ensure the PCM should be turning the fan on was to turn on the air conditioning. With the fan disconnected this always resulted in 13.5v to almost 14v showing on the volt meter at the plug. When the fan was plugged into the lines I would get no voltage.
