317 Heads
317 Heads I want to know how much work you are putting into your junkyard heads before installing them on your turbo setup.
I'm looking to buy some 317 heads and wonder if it's better to pay more for low miles or pay less for more miles?
If I need to replace the guides and seats, get a valve job, etc no matter what I will buy the high mileage heads. If you are just replacing the springs and possibly seals I would prefer to buy low mileage heads. Let me know your thoughts...

I always wondered what others do with their 317's myself. I picked up my set from a member here. They weren't machined or anything. I brought them to a reputable machine shop to clean them up, mill them slightly, did a valve job, pressure check and they also installed my patriot spring kit. It cost me 3 times more than what I got the heads for to have the work done, but everything was still under $600.

i bought my motor with 84k miles, ran it for 2 years, now have a forged short block and justhad them pulled off the stock heads from the origional motor and put them on the forged.
for a fi build with stock heads i see no use in spending $600 for porting or any extra money besides springs

I spent 250 with Patriot getting a 5 angle valve job,resurfacing (minimal), & new guides. I like to cover all my bases though being that I'm trying to make this stock motor live on boost.
Got mine used. Took them apart, checked them... if the guides are good they are good, only way to know is to check. Miles mean nothing. I cleaned up the bowls up a bit, lapped the valves (stock), and put them back together with new seals and Patriot Extreme springs. The heads were on my 5.3 I ran in my Nova for 3 years, then moved to the 6.0 I had 2 years ago, and now currently on top my 370 as of last spring. Havnt touched them in 6 years.
