Default How to prep a 6L for Turbo

I'm picking up a 6L today. What should I do to prep it for boost.
I'm transferring everything over from the hurt boosted ls1 its replacing.
Should I transfer the arp rod bolts over to the 6L ? I'm trying to get some remflex gaskets so I dont have any exhaust leaks.

First, what are the power goals? That can help in assessing what's needed. But I would start with pulling the heads, and cleaning them up and replace the springs with Patriot Golds or something similar (dual spring), replace the head gaskets with LS9s, and do ARP head studs.

I'm going to widen the ring gap on mine and do rod bearings and rod bolts while it's apart.

What's your compression going to be?

I was going to leave it at stock compression for this season. I have an ls1 I plan on building for next season . My target whp is 700 for the lq4
I was going to leave the heads on and change the springs and rod bolts.
Will this be safe for 12 lbs with meth

Honestly I would just change the valve springs and use a ls6 cam. Have seen a stock 6.0 in a truck with those mods last at 14 psi.....Until the meth had a glitch and it broke a ringland. I think you would be fine at 12 psi with meth as long as the tune is good.

I'm wondering how many of these "ring land" failures are actually "ring" failures. Don't get me wrong, these are crappy pistons, but the land also blows off when the ring ends butt together.

Wouldn't an LQ4 on 12lbs be less cylinder pressure then an LS1 on 12lbs because of the lower static compression? I'm hoping I can creep up to 12-14 with just an ebay IC on mine.

No he didn't touch the motor other than valve springs, cam and high volume oil pump.

My ls1 had ring failure in one cylinder. The landing broke too right where the rings cracked. No meth on 12lbs. It was only a matter of time.
Thats why I'm putting in a 6L.

I ended up getting a turbo cam from Champion Motors. Hopefully its not too big.

Should I transfer the ARP rod bolts from my 5.7 to the 6L. I'd rather not touch the bottow end unless its a must.
The engine is so clean. It only has around 20k miles on it. The block is still painted black. Thats hard to find here in Canada. It came out of an 05 Escalade.

It doesn't hurt to change them if you already have the bolts. Though many have had success without touching the bottom end. One good thing is if you hurt the motor, you can have it bored safely and re use the block. My advice is to run it the way it is and have fun with it. You would probably break a ringland before the rod bolts would be an issue...... Just don't try to rev the crap out of it.

The cam should be fine.....
