Default Tail pipes?

Does anyone know if the STS kit reconnects your existing duel tail pipes or do you just dump it with a shorty out of the turbo? I was looking at mine today and I don't know if I could get the passenger side back around the fuel tank, does this mean single exhaust out the drivers side? I am sure tail pipes are required for resale and it would be nice to fill the holes! Anyone had to deal with this? Thanks, Les...

Could you use flat piping ? Might be a dumb question but would it work?..

Don't think it would bend well, but thanks. There must be someone who has done this

Some cars with rear mount and cutouts for dual exhaust I've seen had the exhaust going out of one and the wastegate dump out of the other with the same tips. Looks perfectly normal.

They make mandrel bends in the ovalized tubing. I'm using it to help ground clearance on my intercooler pipes in a few spots

have one coming out of the wastegate and one out of the turbo exhaust. it'll look perfectly normal. that is how i have mine set up, that is also how the new style STS kits are. I even have a muffler and cutout. cut out closed: cant hear the turbo spooling or cam at all.. car is very quiet, cut out open: turbo and cam are very noticeable and everyone around can hear it spooling.

My Rear mount has one exhaust tip coming off the turbo (right side), and one coming off the waste gate (left side). Only looks funny at start up when steam comes out of only one tube. Otherwise looks normal. Not sure how STS is setup. Mine was custom fabbed.

The steam out of one tube WOULD be a giveaway...

Yeah, but that goes away in 5 min. Rest of the day it looks like dual exhaust from the perspective of the guy trying to catch me.

Thanks for the feedback guys, are you happy with the setup (STS owners and custom installs)? I am up and down with the idea and kit, reviews are about 50/50 for and against. Seems to be the least intrusive for the vehicle under 8 psi which is all I want, the price however is still up there. Is STS the only game in town for rear mount?

You can build your own for cheap enough. There's other kits out there but IMO its still best to build it yourself and cheaper

^^^ I agree...

Not too difficult to cut off the muffler, weld on the turbo stuff, run a cold pipe to the front, and run the oil pump (wiring and oil lines). Of course thats making it really brief! lol. It's obviously a lot of work, but I would think less work than front mount, and less invasive.

If you do it yourself, you can choose your own turbo too.

Very, very true! You can spend roughly 1/4 tp 1/3 the TOTAL cost of an STS kit by building it yourself. That would include an intercooler and a better turbo and wastegate also. Shame that they have not come down on prices after all this time.

I put my custom kit together for $1500 and $500 of that was because I had to buy HPtuners for my PCM I admit that I went the ebay route on the intercooler, WG, and Turbo. Been on my car for 3 years with no failures.

I also went with the Ebay Intercooler, fit great, works great. I would recommend against the JDM Ebay turbo units, but instead a T70 Journal Bearing or T76 Ball Bearing Turbo w/ either .81 AR or .96 AR, also available on Ebay, but made by On3 Performance. Just search On3 T70 Turbo on the Ebay site and they pop right up. The Journal Bearing turbos go for about $350, and the Ball Bearing ones are $700 (Prices are shipped).

Go with a Tial style BOV @ 50mm too.

Good luck. Keep us posted. Maybe start your own build thread.

Wow, thanks guys. I really have never considered turbo up to now and have not done research on what is good and not? I have been e-mailing STS and there guy is very helpful with my questions. Maybe I should check out some local shops for quotes as well for a custom job (just thinking of a hoist and welding and getting it done right). Would be nice if there was a parts thread to compare with since I am new to turbocharging? Thanks, Les...

On3 are Chinese turbos BTW. But I have one and they do work good.they shouldn't charge more than 2.5 hrs for the exhaust part. If you hav them do a aluminized under car intercooler should be roughly 1.5 hours. Look at zl1killa thread and zombies threads. Lots of very good info

Thanks for the feedback, I am checking locally to see if anyone would do the plumbing and welding!
