8.1 w/ 2.9 Whipple
Long story...
A guy broadsided me and totaled my 01 2500HD. Drivetrain is 8.1 and Allison. I'm considering buying my truck back from insurance and installing my engine in a like truck. I found an 02, 8 inch lift, loaded....etc with the same drivetrain. Only this new truck has a 2.9 Whipple on it. However, theengine has a bottom end knock. Sounds like it'd be perfect for the seller and perfect for me. Just put my new, totally stock, 8.1 from my wrecked truck to the new one that has an engine knock. My question is, would I be ok mating a completely stock 8.1 to a 2.9 Whipple? I'm not sure what mods the guy made that caused the knock his engine currently has, I just know I could gear it down to no more than 6 lbs boost and probably be alright. However, I've never messed around with blowers. Would I need to change the heads, cam, crank and programming to safely do this engine swap And have a very reliable truck that can pull my camper across the country?
