Default Need some input...thinking about adding procharger

I am currently running a stock bottom end 2002 ls1 with victor jr manifold, trex cam, full bolt ons, th400 trans, 3.73 gears, 4000 stall, and 750 carb in a 75 vette. I was planning on buying heads and staying NA but I will still be under 500 rwhp and be spending $2k or more. I know that if I do the heads it will be a nice street/strip car but want to keep my options open.

I spoke with procharger and they said I can run a sbc kit with a ls1 bracket to fit the kit on my car and I was surprised that its only a little over $3k.

My question is how would my car run if I added the procharger and ran 8lbs of boost? I know the trex cam being on a 110 lsa isnt best for boost but would it work? If I had to change the cam I would be ok with that, But I am on a budget so I would want a cam that would work well with my gearing and stall converter. I cant afford at this time changing everything. If this would work out what kind of power could I expect to make, would it make me more power than my heads cam bolt on na setup? Thanks any opinions would be appreciated.

how would it run?.....i mean it would work with that cam(your going to bleed some I imagine).....but 8 lbs is a little extreme considering how much you are already taxing the motor with the current setup. You could drop the compression by adding the 317's and add some better bolts and gaskets which would go a long way towards holding her together....your going to make closer to 550-600 d say on 8lbs. stock ls1I made 600rwhp @ 9lbs .....People have done it and had good luck with them (brandon 35thcamaross/ allout06 have so far) .but your on borrowed time....id try less boost like say 5-6 lbs or enough to get to your goal, and just enjoy it until you have money for a new motor and swap the cam then as well.

Thanks I am new to the boost thing I didn't realize it would make that much power with only 8psi. Basically my goal is to be 500-550 to wheels so if 5-6psi would do that that's what I would do. I don't want to destroy my motor any time soon.

I understand, enjoy it while you save up the money for a motor on a low boost level, then when you have the money ready, you can either sell the stock motor and get some cash back or do what Id do and send it to the moon.
