Question boosted 5.3 I have a 2002 LM7 that I am going to run a 72mm turbo on. I have the heads off now..862 casting..installing head studs and ls9 gaskets. I looked at a few valves and i am going to go ahead and do a valve job to them. Questions is..I know the gaskets are .050 , can I take off .010 to clean up the sealing surface of the heads and still be ok?

into the summit compression calculator:

and then adjusted the deck thickness by -.010 in. The result bumped up the compression from 9.49 to 9.69.
ASSUMING I know what I'm doing (lol), I think you should be fine with milling .010 off the deck.
Would be nice for some others to chime in though. I'm by no means an expert on heads.
