I'm not an expert on carbs but to help you on your question, a blow-thru carb does not have a choke tower on it. It will only have the 4 throttle blades( if it's a 4-barrel) on the bottom of the carb. I would not recommend a standard carb for boost. The reason the choke tower doesn't exist on a blow-thru is so that boost isn't restricted as it enters the carb. They used the standard carbs on cars like the Turbo 4.9 Trans Am but that's because it was a draw-thru intake setup.

Is there anything else different about a blow through? I don't run a choke anyway.

You have to seal the holes on the metering blocks with epoxy if it's not a blow through specific carb. The power valve channel restrictors need to be drilled bigger if i remember correctly.

I ran 7psi through my 650 that I modified myself. A few simple mods, no big deal. Actually ran pretty good on the street BUT, everything I've been told is after 6-7 psi, it will never run right and no way to tune for higher power levels and have decent manners. Professionally modded blow thru carbs do work very well.

I guess to answer your question, yes you can use a "regular carb" up to a conservative point like I did.

Search is your friend....

There is a lot more to making a carb work with boost on the street than just setting it up.

Go on the turbo forums and start doing homework. Look up the crutch and Brent Davis. You will find all you need to know.

Here's mine. I just need my air pump setup and then finish my build.
