Default SD vs MAF

I have a 97 camaro lt1 with a v7 ysi. My question is if I'm going to dd my car what would perform better, a speed density tune or a maf tune? I want to be able to drive the car anywhere without any issues.

All that is needed for a SD tune is either a 2 bar of 3 bar map depending on what OS you want to put in th PCM.

I am currently running a 2 bar map and have a 2 bar OS from HPtunners in the car. I will be switching to a 3 bar Map and 3 bar OS over the winter

I run SD as well. I have no issues besides warmup. It starts looking for a MAF and runs like crap the 1st 5-10 seconds of startup than finds idle.

Other than that I am more than happy with it.

SD is fantastic. It's all in the ability of the tuner to get it correct. With a maf you either have a huge restriction, or buy a $$$ maf. With SD you can have 4" all the way. Only restrictions in my intake setup is the IAT sensor, and a n2o nozzle

A bar of pressure is roughly 14 PSI (atmosphere at sea level).

0 PSI of boost would be roughly 1 bar. 14 PSI, 2 bar. 28 psi, 3 bar.

At least that's the way I understand it. I'm not sure if there's a 2.5bar OS but you're probably better off starting with the 3 bar.

If you have a 98 ECM like me, you're stuck with the 2 bar OS (at least through HP).

Actually a 2 bar will read -14.7 to 14.7psi . Your car has vacuum till you go into boost. A 3 bar is from -14.7 to 29.4 psi.. like you i have a 98 PCM. 2 bar is the highest i can go. I'm running 15 to 18 pounds of boost. but i can never hold my foot into it to ever see those numbers.

btw, you can get a 2 bar to fit in the factory spot, the 3 bar sensors do not. You just run a vac line to the sensor and zip tie it somewhere

Im on a 3 bar SD tue and still get 20+ mpg
