how much power do you want to make.

its all a measure of horsepower

most people 500whp makes them **** their pants and thats a pretty easy reliable goal i would say.

if you just want to slap a butt mount on it and run....id say denmah is right. it will most likely survive a lil while at 500rwhp

500-600 is asking for it. safe tune it.

i think you should do a bunch more research as much as its probably painful to hear me say that.

its gunna take more parts or some compromises on your stand with all stock stuff, some things might have to get swapped out, or ultimately i think the price paid and the horsepower gained might not be worth it, if you understand what i am saying

unless you want a turbo just because it makes turbo noises.
some people are like that too lol

Boost is a measure of restriction.

How much power do you want to make and how long do
you want it to last? That is the question.

Stock LS rods are the weak link. If the tune up is spot on it will last for a while @ 500-600rwhp UNDER 6500rpm.

I've pushed 800rwhp using an older style LS rod.......but it was short lived.

Ok well I definitely do not want to blow my motor. I want to play it safe and make a good 450hp with a super good tune I dont want to push more then 5psi. Will need to mess with fuel sorse?

I'm building my own turbo. I'm using a Cummins turbo diesel. The hx35w I'm going to use a external waste gate with no intercoler. What do u guys think

Only 450? Why not just do heads and cam?

Heads and cam will run me like 2k and I still have to put them on my self and get it tuned. I got a rear mount for under 1k and I cud slap it on in a weekend. Is it worth it? I have been thinking of heads and cam but Iv been wanting a turboed car.

There is nothing cheap and easy about boost. Knowledge is your friend and will save you a ton of time and money. At a minimum you will need a good tune.

If it was $1000 and a weekend project, we would all be driving around turbo'd LS cars

This is my friends 99 FRC, stock ls1 with a tti kit on it. This is not a friendly dyno either. He went 10.5x @ 141 Saturday night. It has around 80k miles on it.

You're gonna need a lot of supporting mods. It's just like putting a big cam in a car you have to have lots of **** to support it. Definitely do research on it.

you are not asking quite the correct question, or you are leaving out a great deal of details.

if you want it to last, 6psi, a really good tune, and nice and rich or in the safe zone with fueling and spark. Don't dump the clutch and don't beat on it bad, or else those factory parts won't last.

if you keep it a fun daily driver and put some good parts with that rear mount it will last.

check out my build in my signature.

I think you should not leave out the intercooler. Also, consider a methanol/water injection system. IATs will drop 40 degrees instantly. Gives you more/dense air, cooler air, safer setup.

You can push 7-9 psi safely with these 2 components and be closer to 500-550 rwhp.... my opinion.

Fuel... if you do the Racetronix Hot Wire kit, you may be ok on fuel, but should replace injectors with 60lb injectors.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomet...786+rwhp+stock

786 rwhp, stock bottom end. Car ran like that for months before he tore it down to build a fuel system (snowballed from there )

We were running out of fuel up top, so its likely the early shifts that kept it together that long, rarely if ever saw anything past 6000 RPM.

his build is a solid read but put some time aside its a bit lenghty but well worth it.
im in the same boat as you, i got a decent deal on a brand new full sts kit. i was just going to bolt on and go, but after reading quite a few build threads im finding that stock parts only last so long. i put the project on hold and started collecting parts. i picked up a set of 317 heads, intercooler, piping, now im starting to look into internal parts. if you can spend more and build the motor i think you'll be better in the long run.

at the least get fuel injectors, fuel pump and rewire kit, spark plugs, and make sure your tuner is familiar with turbo'd ls1's

I ran 15psi on mine.

It was enough for 113mph in the 1/8th and a best e.t. of 6.47@113 in a 3950lb race weight F-body.
