Default ATI or Pro Torque converter? Go!

Decided to upgrade my converter after my trusty Art Carr has served me well for so long....but I think my new HP levels command something nicer. I have been digging around the forum and it seems the guys out there getting **** done: Phil, Fireball, KP and others are running ATI converters. I also seem to always hear about Protorque building great turbo car converters.

Which should I consider and why. Please back up your choice with facts and experience.

Here is my cars cliff notes:

3500lbs raceweight
Twins
Glide
3.25 gears
Needs to handle at least 1200-1400whp
Hoping to run sub 8.50s @ 165+mph

Thanks!

For what its worth at englishtown every twin turbo pro mod, outlaw 10.5 was using a pro torque. Granted its probably a sponsor but they obviously know how to hold huge Turbo horsepower.

I love my PTC, Loose on the bottom and tight on the top.
Perfect first time and cheaper than the Pro torque.

Pro Torque seems to be the really hot ticket these days.

Lots of ptc fans in here. Tell me about your cars. weight? hp? running mid 8s @ 160mph+ or faster? big difference between a converter for 800whp cars vs 1200+ whp cars... Especially when they're under a heavy car.

I have had nothing but good luck with my PTC. So far it has been running strong for years now. If it's form personal experience I would definitely use them over and over.

My raceweight is 3400 for X275, I ran 7.53@190 the converter is loose on the bottom, I bump into the beams at 4000 rpm on the footbrake. When I come off the trans brake it flashes to 6300 and never goes below 7200 after the shift. On the big end before the traps my engine rpm and driveshaft rpm are within 100 rpm of each other. Thats 1% slip, It is very efficient. Is the pro torque better maybe but I doubt it for cars at our power level. For half the cost of the pro torque the PTC is a steal.

another vote for PTC. those guys love racing like we do. no bullshit. great custom service. always willing to stand behind there products. reasonable pricing. id rank it up there with yank, circle D, and all of the well known TC brands. Made in the heart of dixie.

1% is KILLER. At 7500rpm my Chance is 7% slip. Good job.

I shift around 7k lolz.

I spoke with Tim(?) at PTC last week about possibly trying my buddies spare converter.....but turns out it wouldn't work well. He was VERY helpful and also very anxious to build me a custom one (duh, he's in business to sell converters). I was impressed on how much time he spent working with me about simply using a friends PTC, which would net him zero dollars. Maybe I'll give them a shot.

My car makes 1200 rwhp through a glide on a dynojet and I also like my PTC. The slip is less then 8%. It is also loose enough downlow I can leave on a footbrake if needed.
