Default Cam or rockers?

All right, I know this may seem like a stupid question for some of you.

I have a 98 TA. Is this the correct stock cam specs?

1998 - 2000 Fbody
202/210 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.496" / 0.496" int/exh lift
116 LSA

If I change the rocker arms to 1.8 will that increase the lift to .596/.596?

If so then would that be a good substituted for a turbo cam?

Thanks,

Chris

The 1.85 rockerarms will give you about 10 to 15 hp,but you'll need to change your valvesprings. In my opinion,if you are going to the trouble of changing valvesprings why not change the cam?It will only take a couple of hours more and yield between 30 to 50 hp,besides changing valvesprings with the heads on is the hardest part of a cam swap.I've run 1.85 SLP rockerarms for more than a year, with no problems, but if I had it to do over,I would have gone with the cam.

By going with a 1.8 rocker. your lift will by no means be that bi. Your stock Cam wil become about .520 lift on a 1.8 rocker.

I would say change the cam.

I thought that that would be the case. Are there any good sites that explains how all that works? You know the actual math behind that junk.

the math is .496 * 1.8/1.7= .525 lift, and you would of course get a little more duration at .05 lift.

how much power you looking to make? whats wrong with the stock cam and stock rockers? i say keep em and spend that money on a solid fuel system, drivetrain, or instrumentaion and engine management.

I am not a fan of just changing rockers, BUT if you plan to run a stock engine with boost for a few years I would run some upgraded valvesprings like Comp 918's or at least LS6 springs. You could do some cheap rockers at the same time, they are worth 10-15rwhp on a n/a motor so they should help a boosted car.

Overall I would do a cam.

I know I have asked this before, but I did not get much feed back.

What cam would be good for turbo? I am looking at building a 383 Turbo TA. I want about 800wrhp buy the time I am done. I hope to be there in about 5 years. So I plan on taking my time. I would like a cam that will make some good gains N/A but also be the cam that I will keep in for the long run. I hate buying parts twice.
