It absolutely compresses air. If it didn’t it would not produce boost.

the gaps between the rotors decreases as air travels through the blower thereby decreasing the volume and compressing the air.

roots blowers like a 6-71 does not compress air it moves air and the stacking effect of air pushed into the manifold compresses the air. It is an air mover not a compressor. This is why a screw blower makes so much more power becuase it is an actual compressor. What you describing by this decreasing space between rotors is a screw blower not a roots.

Ok fair enough. Your getting pretty specific about the mechanism of how “boost” or pressure is created through roots vs screw type. Nonetheless your description about it is accurate.

I was mostly taking exception with the statement that they don’t make boost. You clarified it well however.

Default Back at it

After a long time away, I started working on the 63 nova again. I have got most of the engine and trans parts. All of the bad sheet metal has been replaced. There is a 9 inch in the car. I picked up a polished 6-71. More updates coming. I put a threaded hole in the manifold for the cyclone iat. Hopefully running by Christmas

Damn it John, now I have to change my shorts.
My buddy is building a 1957 Chevy Pickup w/ 22" billet wheels on bags with a 427 ls and an Alky Digger Blower, can't wait to see him complete it.
