Default do I have to run a catch can for pcv setup?

I was talking to a friend of my fathers today who runs a sbc with an 8-71 roots blower on it pushing 16psi about his crank case venting. he told me that all he runs it breathers on both valve covers that are taller than normal so nothing can push out and he has never had any isues. is there a reason this could not be done on an ls based engine? i should be in the same range for boost, maybe 18psi tops.

ive seen people run the breather on a ls motor not sure how much better or worse it is then a catch can set up. i herd that allot of people also had to run some kind of sleeve over the breather to keep the oil mist from getting everywhere

I ran breathers before I had a catch can and it made a mess. It worked as far as venting the engine but there was oil to clean up. Get a catch can set up and forget about it.
