Default Help with new FI Set Up

I have a few questions about some things that I know nothing about.

First I only have a powerdyne setup (please no cracks). I am only running 6 pound pulley now, but I have just purchased a new 9lb pulley. I was reading about a catch can can you explain what this is and can you tell me what importance it serves. Or if I will even need one.

Till just recently I have never heard of or seen a cogs setup. I must say pretty nifty thing. Can I do it on a powerdyne setup. Powerdyne has a very poor setup and has belt slip problems.

Am I going to get any horsepower gains from going from my stock 5.7 litre heads to stock 6.0L heads or are the mainly used to lower the compresson.

And now for the Most important question of them all. I recently did a tranny swap on my car and since I have done this every time I start the car I hear clanging sound from the engine. And I only hear this when I start it. Everything sounds normal after it is running. Is this something serious or is it nothing. Has anyone heard of this.

The catch can removes harmful ....stuff from intering your intake. If you open up the intake on a car with a catch can it will look much cleaner than one without. FI cars only magnify this problem as our cars weren't designed for boost. So the PCV system isn't really designed for boosted environments. So redoing your catch can can really help ventilation and proper removal above mentioned "stuff". Talk to HuggerOrangeSS as he helped me deisgn mine.

As for Cogs, while the design isn't new it is new to us F-Bods. You might want to call ASP and ask if their system will work for your Powerdyne. If not you might have to custom fabricate something. Not sure of the expense there.

The head swap should do both for you. Stock 6.0L heads flow better than 5.7L heads as well as having a lower compression. So you'll lose a little power from the lower compression, but gain some from increased flow. Even if your power levels break even, you'll need less boost to accomplish that power level. But my guess is you'll see a slight gain. Just don't be disappointed if it's not much. Post up some before and after numbers, cause I'm sure many are curious to know exactly what would happen.

As for the tranny swap, I'm an M6 guy so I've heard of autos causing engine knock. However Autos always place a little drag on the engine, even in neutral. Perhaps what you're hearing is just piston slap(most of us LS1s have it) and it's more pronouced with the increased drivetrain drag of your new setup. Other than that I'd check your bell housing inspection hole and make sure everything is tight in there. Spin the engine so you can see the entire flex plate and TC.

Hope this helps,
Mike

hey thanks a lot on a lot of your help I have #'s now before the heads and I will post them as soon as I get a new set of 6.o heads. I am going to try to get 500 hp on the powerdyne setup cause I have never seen it done. (I know that many of you are saying cause It is not possible.)

I guess another ? that I have is what about a water/alky thing. i have heard of this but have never done it. How do I make it or what do I do. Will this cause detonation. i have ls1 edit so I can tune to it if I need to

Water/Alky's sole purpose is to prevent detontation. The alcohol has cooling properties that eccessiantly raises your octane level. This allows you to run more boost and/or timing. I have an SMC kit. You might want to contact them for more details and info.

noone makes a cog setup for the bd11a (the system uses the back of the belt) they can make a cog set up if you switch to a xb-1a but then custom brackets and tensioner are needed, because the charger needs flipped around so the pulley faces the front of the car. the only way i found to fix the bd11a belt issues is a manual tensioner
