Hey guys, I'm a new member and was wondering if someone could help me out. I have a 96 z28, all stock, and I'm looking to give it some more juice. I want to start off with some sort of cold air system. Which would you guys recomend for me...putting on an slp kit
or get an SS hood and air box??

Well finally somebody even I can help!! If I were you, I would go w/ the SLP ram air mod, AND the airbox. They work together great, and you can get both for 20% the cost of the hood. Those two items, + the K&N filter were the first things I did to my car, and let me tell you, I felt a HUGE difference from stock!! ... Well, huge for me, probably not huge for most of these jokers. After that, get yourself a nice $150 2 chamber flowmaster (doesn't actually flow the best, but for the price it sure does sounds the best) and you'll be running about 350hp (under the hood). Enough to kill any rice you come across, and any member of Mustang Nation (I just heard that one the other night, so I'm going to abuse it), and the Vette's won't embarase you. They'll still beat you, but hey lets face it, they payed 2 1/2 times more than you did. All that on a stock LS1, for less than 4 bills, and you get the added bonus of it being a total sleeper. God Bless America, and God Bless Her Cars.

Oh, and PS: Your gas miliage will increase noticably too.
PPS: The Ram Air mod doesn't really start to kick in till 40mph. but you'll feel it when it does.

Uh Oh.... Sorry man, I was thinking you were running an LS1, not an LT1. I guess I just breezed right over the 96, and read it as 98. .... Bummer. Well, w/ the exception of the Flowmaster, I think you can pretty much dis-regard everything else I said. Not to worry though, you're still in good shape. The LT1 is still a damn fine motor. Top of the line just a few years ago. I was looking at the SLP intake you're thinking about, and to tell you the truth, it actually looks better than the lid/ramair mod I did for my 2000 w/ the exception the the extra kick at higher speeds. You're on the right track. Beginning small is never a bad thing. The SLP intake, and the exhaust will still be a ton cheaper than the hood/box, and it will still give you better miliage + power. You'll still feel it. And it's an F-body, so you'll still be running harder than about 90% of the cars on the road. I'd say piece it together nice and slow, and start counting your pennies for a bright shiney Vortec w/ Aftercooler, or a STS turbo set up. I've thought more than once that I wished I had the LT1, because FI is MUCH cheaper for you than it is for us. Almost half price in some cases! Good luck. Don't know if I was much help though.

Thanks CaptUSA, I went with the cold air kit, and I'm saving up for the exhaust.

I think you'll be more than happy with it. Especially when you see the gas miliage improvment, and you're beating the stock LS1's. Good Luck on your project. Keep us all up to date on her.

cold air. cheaper and the same gain. plus, the SLP kit is purrty

If you go with a Flowmaster catback, go for the sound. There are tons of catbacks that flow a lot better, I'd recommend a Hooker aluminzed catback if you live down south, Magnaflow stainless steel if you live in a seasoned area. Both are definitely worth the money- great sound and flow..

This post should be in the LT1 sectin though, it has nothing at all to do with forced induction....
