I bought the cxracing 76mm GT45R. Its a ball bearing unit so it was a few hundred more then your average Ebay GT45. I felt a little better with this turbo because I could actually call cxracing and get some real world and tech advice on the unit. I probably read all the threads where guys say you get what you pay for (and in a lot of cases thats true), on the other hand I probably read the same amount where these Ebay GT45's performed flawlessly for a lot of guys.

Who comes on the internet preaching how they spent a few hundred bucks on a turbo and its failures I'm sure those who do have failures keep quite to avoid getting flamed....

There is nothing new tech about the gt45 turbos.

They have been figured out for years it makes sense that someone with minimal development and manufacturing costs can sell them cheap and have them still be of reasonable quality.

I do know of one unit that failed locally. but it was no fault of the turbo's (although the owner tried to claim it as such). apparently his 200k+ mile junkyard 302's oil pump wasn't supplying enough oil for the engine, let alone the turbo. turbo failed, and he took it off and ran the car n/a for about 3 days before it hammered out a rod bearing.

this thing seems to be rustling jimmies everywhere so far. best part is, everyone believes everything I post. what I choose to post about it anyways lol. got a local guy with a big block nova already wanting a money race. soon...

I already have several people wanting money races. I haven't even got the damn thing done yet and people can't wait to line up with it. got the nova to take out first, then apparently some carbed ls mustangs, a "cam only" camaro etc...

trust me, no deep pockets here. this has all been built on a paycheck to paycheck budget. everyone thinks they know my setup better than I do. but all they know about it is what I put out there. I get a kick out of watching all the formed opinions and assumptions based on what I have said I have. well that would be great, assuming I posted every little thing. otherwise what would be the point in running for money? everyone already knows what a junkyard 5.3 will do in something that's 3600 lbs

everyone knows what a junkyard 5.3 with boost will do in anything. Coming from the 4cyl. world the power is insane in these V8's. Everytime I pop the hood ppl call me a cheater.

Failed units, I had a bad experience with DNA motoring. GT45 lasted about 65 miles. I had it on a 5.0 and not like how it ran so I built a brand new engine. 362 cubic inch ford. it ran pretty good.... until the impeller had so much play it started beating up the housing. And not function properly at all. brand new engine, brand new oil pump, all the kit parts they included, oil feed line, restrictor and everything. they would not help me at all. Because I had had the turbo a couple months. Even though it had not been used.. when I first ordered from them they sold me all incomplete stuff and only got me some of the parts that were missing.

truck is in the body shop getting restored right now. Where can I get a good GT 45 to replace it?

also what size should I drill out the restrictor to.? I heard some people drill them out with running under 60 pounds of oil pressure I'm running about 50

Im running the DNA motoring 69mm unit fed by a 3/16 steel line w the restrictor and no issues yet w the turbo. Builds boost fast and lots of it. Old engine was a 2000 241 headed LQ4 spun a cam bearing, 2 rod bearings and broke a piston, failed oil pump. New engine is a 2006 LQ9 w ported 317s
