408, 91mm, E85, Head Lifting Issues.. HELP!
Recently just got my car back together, and now have ran into a wall. I'm new to this stuff so i would like some of you guys imput on the situation, My current setup is:
LQ9 408 10.4:1 Compression
GM LSA Stock Casting Heads
GM LS9 Head Gaskets ( Copper Coated )
Holley High Ram Intake
91mm Turbo
FIC2000 Injectors
Magnafuel Pump
Holley Secondary Pump
Tuned With HPtuners on E85..
Had the car on the dyno when tuning and it blew a head gasket, thought i diagnosed the problem but i guess i was wrong, Im guess i was experiencing head lift as i did this weekend at the track. Was about half way down the track and the car started the shake so i backed out of it and clicked into 3rd and it then blew out a fire ball, that resulting in melting the head between cylinders 3 and 5 between head and block and also resulting in loss of oil pressure. Pulled plugs and plugs #5 #6 and #8 are all missing the straps and covered in oil.
I'm running the BR7EF plug from NGK gapped at .022, my A/F are tuned with the lambda ratio and are right around 7:5 to 7:8 with approx 14 degrees of timing. And im pushing 22lbs at my max boost
My question is has anybody else experienced this problem, iv been told by several boosted local guys to just get away from E85 and go race gas, but i'd like to get some other peoples input on this issue.
Thanks,
Billy

Fuel line size feed an return an base pressure
What type of regulator
Have you tested the e85 to see the percentage it is
We have several stations in our area and they are all different with the best being about 76%

Yes we are commanding the AFR and Stevieturbo thanks for correcting me there. Your are right it's 0.75 - 0.78. It def has some detonation 3 of the plugs are completely gone. The question on the fuel pressure I'm really not sure. I know at idle with both pumps running it's roughly 60psi. I'm not tuning this, local tuner is doing it for me

I'm aware that detonation will seek and destroy the engine, I'm just trying to figure out why its detonating. I thought I had everything safe enough not to have any issues at least for awhile. Guess I just need to steer clear of e85 and go race gas...

I believe you should pull your injectors and inspect each of the tips. I would bet the three cylinders that the plugs are gone the corresponding injector is gummed up with a black tar like substance.

You have verified your WOT AFR with WBO2 or just commanding x AFR and fingers crossed? Seems like most probabale cause is lean. Based on your findings I would be so hung up on a lean condition that if one WB02 told me g2g at WOT; I would double check with another WB02.... Dont blame the E85, its very cheap and easy to verify ethanol content, quick fuel makes a simple graduated baret that works like a charm. I did it this way for years before going to a permanently mounted solution with zietronix display and GM FFV sensor.
