Rear mount newb question
My question is this: Have there been decent improvements in rear mount technology?
We have a very good local shop that specializes in LS1s and they have a very good front mount kit that is $9-10k (I'm not sure if that includes labo/tune). I'm not quite sure I want to commit to something so pricey. On the other end, I have the option to go N/A for a fraction of the price...but at our high altitude (5,000+ft) it is my understanding that N/A setups will barely put me at the power levels of mildly modded LS1s at sea level. FI, on the other hand, doesn't suffer as much power loss from the crappy air and it would be easier to obtain my goal of 400+ RWHP than going with some radical H/C combo that drives like poo...
All that being said, I have noticed that rear mounts, especially from STS, give good power gains for a price that's somewhere inbetween the N/A option and the front mount option. The general feedback I saw on the STS systems is that they had spool and oil issues, but all the threads/reviews that I had seen were from years ago.
Does anyone have updated info on these rear mount kits? Anyone buy one of them recently? Do they still suffer from the same issues, or have they been fixed? Was it worth the money that you put into it?
Thanks guys
