you have to take your time when downshifting....cant just slam gears with a cog setup

have to rpm match

It can be a problem, just make sure your pulley alignment is correct and do whatever you can to minimize flex in the brackets. Some type of strut brace can work wonders.

they make a ratcheting pulley for cog setups , if i recall its about 500 bucks for it and causes less wear and tear on the belt .

I used to have a 12 rin with manual tensioner...and it always slipped unless the belt was mega mega tight...then it did blower bearings in. A brace did make a huge difference to that....except the upper bearing in the brace never lasted long...and then the brace broke lol

So I put 50mm cogs onto my YSi after that..I wanted NO slip.

I had some alignment issues at first, but eventually got it working pretty good. Belts didnt last forever, but did last reasonably well. All seemed great

Until I had some alternator problems middle of this year, took it all apart and back together again....then the **** started shitting belts again.
I had a dedicated blower drive up front, 85/28T cogs.

Got fucked off with it again and reverted back to my old 12 rib, and stuck on a bloody great big spring tensioner.
Should have done that years ago !! All my problems basically were down to not having a good sprung tensioner. Even a 12 rib stretches like mad when on the power.

I would say yes you can do cogs. But it will be very hard on the belt drive, and more importantly the blower itself.

I would say try and get a good wide ribbed belt, and definitely install a good strong sprung tensioner, and you will have no issues with slip, and no worries about what cogs might do to the setup.

its for when you shift up...not down.....
wont help with down shifting...

I originally started to post about that in this thread, and changed it once I realized he said downshifting issues.

the way that pulley works is that it will allow the pulley to freewheel so when you have the rpm drop its not going to be so hard on the blower and break it or belts...

going the other direction, it locks up and reacts like a normal pulley

its a one way freewheeling cog.

oh...and I own that pulley..ATI super pulley...only comes in a 75mm 45 tooth...
