This test holds up on the street as well. A drop in IAT as soon as the power is applied with it either slowly leveling off, or a very small rise. This intercooler is doing work.

How is it a comparison if one core is 65% thicker? I'm sure the quality core will be more efficient but I don't really think this comparison proves it...

It is a comparison of two intercoolers that were on my car. It is not intended to be anything other than that.

Kind of hard to compare when all the cheap intercoolers are no more then 3" thick, I wouldn't use those eBay intercoolers over 700hp

I agree. Absolutely an inadequate intercooler at this power level. Probably ok to 500 WHP or so. I mean 700 HP rated is not 700 WHP through an auto!

The whole point of this exercise was to show you what can be gained when you go from the generic 3-4 inch core E-Bay coolers that are found on many builds, to a quality (and yes larger) core that many are skeptical of spending money on. I too was skeptical and wondering if this costly upgrade would be worth anything. But, I did it and wanted to share the data.

Although for the most part, when the cheap units only cost around $100....it is kind of hard to overlook them, and they do perform ok in a lot of cases.

But as you say, for a few hundred dollars you can get a much superior unit that will yield better results everywhere.

One area that I think always fails with the cheap units is end tank design. Although the cores are poor, I reckon they would perform far better with a much more open end tank design.

Some more data for this thread. Here is an actual low 9 second pass down the 1/4 for review. You will note that the ambient was over 100 degrees at the beginning, and the average over the pass was 87.6. You can clearly see the IATs take a nice dip as the car starts moving (and meth is spraying) with a slow increase over the pass. IATs never went as high as ambient.
