Default Few questions on crossover, clearance and intercooler

Couple quick questions before I have the cross overs finalized. The engine/tranny/turbo will all be hard mounted.

1) Do I need to put some type of flex/triple slip on my cross overs? They go from the header (vband) to the T4 flange.

2) In photo 2, the cold side of the turbo is within an inch of the radiator. Im hoping the cold side temps wont be high enough to affect that area, but would like some confirmation on that.

3) Im going to be ordering an intercooler today, and was wondering what kind of height would be ideal here. I have 12 inches of vertical useable space but that would block all the surface area of the radiator itself. I was thinking something around 6 or 8 inches? 4 inches thick?

Thanks!

1.) Some get by without. I don't see the reason to risk it. Esp with the turbo mounted rigid to the frame. Might as well do 2 for the cost IMO. Use something like this that is not braided on the inside. If you have braiding inside, cut it out.

2) Cold side piping should be fine. heat wrap it if you want to take extra precaution.

3) Biggest you can fit. Try and leave a gap between the IC and the Rad and seal the top and sides. Then run a scoop on the bottom of the rad to force air up in the gap. If your radiator is sized properly with a good core/fan/shroud you shouldn't have issues. Sty away from the super cheap ebay ICs if you have the money. Treadstone makes a decent IC for the price with a low pressure drop across the core. Still doesn't cool/perform like a nice garrett/bell/spearco high density core.

Hey ForceFed thanks for the quick response.

If you look at this photo:

you see where the opening in the rad support is. The intercooler would go in front of this. But on the 70 camaro there is a piece of body kinda prevents a scoop to push air between the two. My initial thought was to run 6 inch of height which would block the bottom half.

If I run 2 puller fans on the rad, I could run a full 10 or 12 inch and cover the entire opening. But would enough air pass through the intercooler into the rad to keep water temps reasonable?

Hard to say. Guessing by the size of that radiator, if you have a really nice fan/shroud setup I doubt it would be an issue.

I'm using a half radiator (14"x14"x3.5" core) to cool my 5.3. It has a 12x32x3 blocking in entirely. I do have a monster ford taurus 2 speed fan (3600cfm or something nutty) with a shroud molded perfectly to the core and an air tight seal. On 100*+ days I don't see much over 200-210* in traffic. Usually around 180 with 3 1/8th inch holes in the OE thermo.
