Default The purest definition of "pushing water": with a vid

What your looking at is the light focused on the radiator cap and the gopro upside down aiming up. The -4 line to the overflow has a bit of a hard time keeping up.

My water pushing video. @ the 55 sec mark look at right front corner of the front of the car. This is on a cold engine basically. Coolant temps around 150. We took overflow hose off the see when it was happening. Cold water builds no pressure so if any pushed out it was from boost pressure overcoming the radiator cap spring. Fix link so we can see you video. I'm sure its more visible than mine.

That isnt pushing water, that's dangerous.

If he knows his car spews out that much water, why on earth doesnt he design the system better and catch any water that's expelled ?

Maybe this is the discovery of it, and now he's changing it. From the look of things, you wouldn't know exactly what's going on when you got out of the car to check it, hence why he put the gopro in there to see what's happening.

I have a feeling this is the 'AH-HA' moment caught on camera.

The fact he did put it there though...says he knew it was happening.

Although why does the cooling system have no provision for expansion or water getting ejected ?

What does he have the two smaller -4 lines for ? or whatever size they are ?

It basically shows the very good reason why a radiator with a cap like that and no external expansion bottle is a bad design.
Not sure how common it is in the US, but such a layout hasnt existed on European or Jap cars for many many years.

Calm down Stevie. Yes, this was the "ah ha" moment. We did know some water was escaping cause there were some water spots under the hood. We had no idea it was this bad and are now working to rectify the situation. The truck was not run again like this. As far as not being able to tell how bad it really was without the camera, 99% of the water had evaporated by the time I got back to the pits. We had no clue it was doing it this badly.

It does have an overflow for safety. It was just overwhelmed.
One of the -4 lines does go to the overflow (mounted in the rear), however that system was completely overwhelmed by this amount of volume and pressure. That will be fixed.

The other -4 line is a return to the radiator from the steam port distribution block.

Surely the water loss in the system was fairly obvious, even if you couldnt see it being lost though ?

A remote header to give room for plenty of expansion would help, plus it always does no harm to log pressure in the system too.
This is not the same as an overflow bottle, which would be additional to any expansion bottle or header tank, whatever you want to call it really.

You'd see plain as day that pressure was getting too high and see there is a problem. Plus you could probably implement some safety to prevent major damage based on that pressure too.

It is what it is, it has already happened and I'm working to fix the situation.
