Default pushrod and valve spring on a 5.3? does it need upgrade? boosted

Been searching the topic and generally the 5.3 can handle 550whp to about 600whp stock.
which is my goal. id be happy with 500whp though through a t76 street car.

but people have also mention the need to upgrade the springs and pushrod.

my question is I thought stock could handle it? is it a reliability suggestion?

im thinking of a budget upgrade to the stock 5.3
stock 5.3 with
pac 1218
since its stock replacement i wont need anything else.
paired with stock 7.4 lenght hardened pushrod.

but if stock can handle it id rather spend that money else where.

Will really depend on the characteristics of the camshaft you choose to run. Depending on the cam specs upgrading may be a strong suggestion or an absolute requirement.

I ran my combo for around a year on OEM push rods with no issues. 6500rpm shift point, 5800 or so through the traps. Zr1/ls9 cam with pac1218's. Keep RPM low with a mild spring and cam in place and I don't think it's necessary at all. I was also running boost in the 20-25psi range.

With your goals LS6 springs and the factory cam would work IMO. LS1 cam is a cheap upgrade and not overpriced like the used LS6 cams IMO

You can get away with a lot on the stock cam. Highest I've seen was 800whp on stock cam and springs. Any aftermarket cam should get upgraded springs. Springs with low seat pressure like the 1218s wouldn't necessarily require hardened pushrods.

Thanks for the reply guys.

Im planning on running stock cam for now. ill add cams later one when i swap heads and stuff. im trying to keep the cost down so i can finish with turbo swap faster.

what i was worried about was the valve float as people posted on stock springs and boost. im thinking of running ls6 cams later down the road.

btw i dont have a plan on running past 6200 rpm.

boost wise im thinking it would take around 15 psi or so to make 550-600whp through an m6.

or may just run 10 for now.
