Steering shaft interference with manual rack/Huron kit

Default Steering shaft interference with manual rack/Huron kit

Wondering if anybody else has run into this problem. I'm bolting up my manifolds tonight, finally coming down the home stretch and run into yet another problem I wasn't expecting. The steering shaft for the manual rack (which was too long from day 1 but I was simply told to trim the ends down) is interfering with the drivers side manifold, no way to clear the thing. Am I the first to come across this or should I have anticipated this with a manual rack? Grasping for straws here..

I don't think I've seen anyone with this problem before using a HS kit, but its definitely an issue with that particular rack setup. The easiest/cheapest/lesspaininthea$% option would be to build a steering shaft similar to this:
