15 years ago I ran a buick gn with a 100 octaine tune it ran 11.40s with the 3.42 gears for 2 years. I picked up a 9" axle for it and it had a 4.00 gear I thought it whould fly . it ran 11.80s . I tried to make it work but it just didn't like it . I had a stock 3.00 gear laying around and just for the street I decided to swap it in and I could not believe how good it felt so I took it to the track . ran a best of 11.08 whould run 11.20 every pass .
as a side note the best 60' it ever ran was with the 3.00 gear. 1.48 @3700#

FWIW I think a lot depends on the gearing in the trans you use.
With my old turbo 3.8 rx-7 I went from a 3.27 to a 3.08 to a 2.73. I picked up Et and MPH with every change. 28” tire 200-R4 trans. Had an excessive slip in the converter though (16% or so). Also only weighed 3000ish lbs. Swapped in a powerglide and I couldn’t pull the 2.73 on the launch. Had to put the 3.27 back in.
