Default First time to the track...Need some changes. Ideas?

'91 Mustang Coupe, 6.0, L92 heads, cam is low 230s, high 590s & on a 114 LSA, 4L80, GT47-80. The car has been a running driving car since 2011. I started off with a soft tune on 91 pump gas & waste gate spring boost, 10-12 psi. Had a blast with the car! I also have had one or two growing pains, never took it to a dyno or track.

Decided last year I wanted to do e85. Found out real quick that my fuel pump/tank set up was not up to the task. Went to a Holley 12-1800 pump & had my sump redone, injectors are the next upgrade. The converter is from FTI, sent it back to have it reflashed, was way too tight, still too tight. I have 3.73 now, going to 3.27s.

Finally put it on a dyno & made a track day this fall.

The car spools awesome on the street, from a roll. I am unable to brake boost it at all, even at the track. So, my 60' is slower than my '99 SS A4 car that was 420 rwhp...

I don't want to put a T Brake on it. I have a 2 step that I'm going to try, along with changing the gears. Also, I just had the trans out, so pulling it again & sending the converter in doesn't appeal to me at this time.

Will the gears & 2 step wake this thing up enough? Any other suggestions on changes to make? I have 275-60-15 MT radials on it.

Here is how the car sits now, this is the 5th set of wheels I've bought for it & don't think I'm changing again for a while.

One under the hood...

3rd pass ever...14 psi

Have you looked into wiring up a button to force third gear on the line? There is a thread on it somewhere around here. Look on denmah's wiki page he has a write up on it. Its supposed to really help 60 ft time

My 80 is full manual via the Rossler electronic valve body.

I just read some posts on it. Interesting....

The two step will help you build boost and bring your 60' time down. What do you have for suspension? How much timing, AFR etc?

The two step should allow you to build boost the same as "commanding" 3rd gear. It'll probably be way more consistent. There's also a few that are running glides (I know this is not your case) that leave it in high gear while staged o build boost easier then pull it into low when they take off. Same concept.

I have coil over front set up with Strange 10 ways & 14-175 springs.
Rear is adjustable UPR uppers & lowers with Strange 10 ways & some stock springs.

Here is a cell video a buddy shot of my 2nd pass, to give an idea of how it leaves.

Here is the slip from that pass...I pushed passed the beams trying to foot brake it, so the 60' isn't really accurate.

Runs about exactly like mine before I added the 2 step. Your 60 was better than mine.

The two step is now getting me 4+ psi at the line at 2700 rpm.

I have not made many decent runs cause my track sucks. But did manage 9.58 and a 9.60. @ 144+ 60 ft came down to low 1.5's, but it will do better.

The two step was worthwhile for me. I don't have a T brake either. I also have 3.73 gears that will get changed this winter.
