Rear Gear Help! I am going to put my order in for a 9" today and need to make my gear choice rather quickly, so please help me out. It will be a twin turbo ls (s366s), turbo 400, 9" 67 Caprice (hopefully can get it down to 3600-3700#). Will be running a 32x14.5r15 Hoosier at the track and a 30x13.5r15 MT on the streets. This will be a 90% street car and 10% track car, maybe half a dozen track days a year.
I am putting some information into calculators and it is saying to go with a 4.xx gear, and judging by what I am hearing from LS people, that is way high. But I dont really want to trap at 5800rpm with a 3.30 gear...unless im doing something wrong, but its pretty cut and dry.
Please help, want to get my order in around noon or so. Please let me know it you need some more info, I will do the best I can to answer.
If you have a similar set up, lease post up what you are running. I was thinking either a 3.25 or 3.50 gear.

I run a 3.50 gear in mine with 28" tires and it works out about perfect for the amount of rpm I want to trap. I go through the traps at 156 mph @ 6600 rpm with the converter locked. Run the calculators and figure out where you want to be (like you already have been) but keep in mind since you aren't going to lock the converter that there will be some slip and make sure you account for that.
If I were you since you have a th400 and can't lock the converter I would probably try to go with a 3.70.
