Question Turbo INFO PLEASE!!!!!

What brand and size turbo would you guy run on a 8100 vortec or gmpp 502???

Much thanks for any ideas!!!!

Too big of a motor, in the turbo world bigger does not = better, look @ all the fast fords 351 is a big CI Turbo motor, no much cylinder volume to fill, id save your money and build a 350 or if u already have the motor spray it

I'm thinking a PTE 88 would do the trick flow wise.

How much power do you want to make?

No, for that size a T4 flange turbo becomes a restriction. This was tried on a PTE88, then swapped to a T91 with T6 flange...lots of power was picked up due to the T4 housing just simply can not support such a large exhaust volume of a 460+ CI motor.

what about that pontiac 440 motor with twin turbos, made like 2000 horses.
bigger is better, you just have to match the parts up right.

I would be will to do twins if needed. I know they make turbos big enough i.e. semi's and tractors. But just need some info a what size I need, so I can start pricing my custom kit. When I am ready to buy I will call in. I kinda what to do a rear mount setup do to the simple factor and heat problem. Already had a small fire this year while mudding. Moving at 3mph ground speed at 4900rpms, gas pedal to the floor. So I am pretty much done offroading with this pickup for now.

i think an 8.1 twin turbo set up would be insane!! 1000+hp EASY!!

my question is how stout is that motor? can you get a forged rotating assembly and will the heads stay on it when the presures go up? if it is anywhere near as sturdy as the gen3 motors you will be set.

be prepaired for more power than you know what to do with!!

Go with either the T91.5, T94 or the GT47-88T. All of these turbos use a T6 style exhaust and will flow 1500-1650hp.

As far internals, I am still in the the air about it, Could buy used 8.1, and build it, some marine versions of the 8.1 come with forged crank and rods. But serious considering a GMPP ZZ502 short block that has strong internals, change pistons to lower cr. Just don't know if a 502 will bolt up to mount and allison trans. And of course suncoast stage 5 allison is NOT cheap. Will see what happens. Thanks again for all the info.

hmmmmmmm....it would be easier to Supercharge it.

I have a 2500 HD Duramax...it is only a 6.6liter...which is much smaller than any 500cid. It has a single turbo and with my Programmer I have 500/700 hp/tq. Which I actually took out because it would burn out my 325/60 18" Nitto Terras on the pavement...so how much more Turbo do you really want???

if he is talking 8.1 with a turbo i would think he want's some serious power.

Turbo's do rock. But I just want a stealthy system so I creep on duramax's and scare them.

Yeah im in the same situation, I was going to get the 6.0 origaly and put on a STS at like 10 psi, but i ended up getting the HD with the 8.1 and what to do basicly the same thing, not needing to be crazy but 750-800 lbs tourque would be nice. after seening all those pumped dmaxs do it im pretty sure my allison can take it,

The allison will bolt to a 502. The engine mount are diferent. Do a transgo shift kit and mabe upgrade the cluches and you should be fine. 8.1 doun't make TQ like the D-MAX and $5000 is way over priced. I was looking to do a turbo my truck but busted the ring lands on cyl#5 so I spending my $ on a stroker motor instead. If can get some more cash rounded up I'll put a turbo on my stroker and kill some more tierods LOL!!

Awesome, 502 it is then. forged internals, lots of boost, big smile. TieRod : how did you break your 8.1? Also if you go over to the dieselplace.com, post to person called: "superdiesel" He has a beefy centerlink and tie rod sleeves, for sale. Made out of 304 SS steel I think. they all have juiced DMAXs over there. And do alot of truck pulling running tie rod sleeves NO BREAKY! And I will make more power than a DMAX.
