Default 383 + F1A Build Thread

so with spring coming around the corner i want to start brainstorming my ideas and getting a solid parts list for my new build. want to get some of your opinions and critique my setup. first off is compression ratio what would be the max amount of boost i can see with 10.5 to 1 on 93 and meth? im hopeing i can do 12-16 pounds on this. hopeing i can hit 650 at the wheels.

motor is a 383 with compstar rods and pistons and diamond -7.6cc dish. (how much boost could these pistons handle? i emailed diamond and they said 10 to 12 pounds. i find it hard to believe forged pistons can take just as much as stock pistons)

for the top end i want to go with the prc 227s with steel guides, so i can keep stock rockers with trunions, custom eps cam with no more the .630 lift.

how are the fast 102s with boost? should i go with a 102 or just a ls6?

fuel system right now is just a hotwire kit with racetronix pump. would adding another pump on a hobbs switch be sufficient? also thinking about 60 or 80 lb injectors.

i have a cx racing intercooler already. have to measure it again i forgot the size. i was planning on getting the brute speed intercooler piping kit, all the other procharger things i need like fans, radiator support etc, and aster bracket as well.

how do you think this setup would be? critique it and any input would be great. just throwing some ideas trying to get a solid list going so i can start ordering!

We've run 14 to 16 psi with these pistons with similar builds, the key is in the tune. With your compression ratio and methanol I'd shoot for 14 psi.
At 700 rwhp twin pumps with the stock fuel line is generally sufficient with 60lb injectors, and you're going to be around 700 rwhp with your combination. Somewhere at this power level is where you end up needing to replace the entire fuel system, which gets expensive.
I'd go with 80lb injectors, the price differential between 60 and 80 lb injectors is minimal.
An LS6 intake would work just fine, however the older ones are starting to crack under boost. The FAST 92 or 102 would be a great way to go, in my opinion the FAST 92 would be all the intake you would need for this combination. Bob

I'd get nothing smaller than 80# injectors. I made a mistake when I bought 60's! I'm running the Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump. Get 2 of those and you'll be fine for even more power later on.

The LS6 intake will work, especially if you're on a budget. You can hit the 650/700hp you want with the 5.25 pulley on the F1A.

X3 on what these guys said above ^^^

Go with some 80# injectors and a dual intank pump set up. I would also add meth injection to the list as well. What exhaust are you running ?

650hp will be easy for a 383ci and the F1-A. Just to give you an idea of power potential... My 383ci is at 9.8:1 compression, P/P 317 heads, 228/232 - 584/588 - 115lsa cam, 1-3/4 headers, ORY, hooker CB, LS6 intake, D1 procharger making 9#'s of boost and I'm at 616rwhp. 700+ hp will be no problem with that engine/blower combo.
