Default Need more ooomph!

Drove a lightly modded 97 Viper GTS the other day. Wanted to buy it, but outside of the fantastic looks it didnt do a lot for me - except for the torque. That was nice. Anyway, my little old bolt on 224 cammed LS1 in my '73 just flat out isn't doing it for me anymore. It needs more power. So, I'm thinking about supercharging it. Being a swap car, but with all the f-body components, would it be better to pick up one of the tuner kits or find a dedicated LS1 f-body kit? If so, and I'm sure Ill get a ton of opinions, go with a maggie or procharger? I'm not looking for anything max effort, but wouldnt mind beating up on a C7 now and then. I'd also not like to blow the motor up. Reliability is a must. Should I even be playing with the LS1 anymore or should I be looking at just swapping to a newer motor? Just want a fun street car, not looking to run 10's or anything...but if I can get 120 traps in a 3600 pound car that'd be great.

So, suggestions on a "mild" build? 317's, keep the 241's, look for something else? Exhaust is currently pacesetters and 2.5" duals all the way back, sufficient? Fuel system? Is the stock bottom end going to be ok or do I need to open it up? Any simple "recipes"?

Thanks guys.

What kit you try and use will depend on what space you have available in the engine bay.

I'd guess you probably have more room than an F Body, so that should open up more options as the F is limited for space, especially for valley mounted blowers.

But if you want a mild upgrade with lots of torque then a Maggie or similar would be your best bet.

But what you do will depend on budget of course.

Sounds like an optimum situation for a Magnacharger. The low end torque they make can turn a heavy street car into a very quick street car provided you can put the power down. I loved mine.

You said you loved yours - in past tense. Did you upgrade to something else? Still wondering if I shouldn't be looking for a GTO kit, a tuner kit, or an LS1 f-body kit (did they ever make them?)

Am I going to be able to get 470-500rwhp out of one?
