What about using a Racetronix harness to power the fans? I had planned to do that once I got around to installing my parts but I never hear of people using them..

But if the fan runs 25A and your fan will be on a lot, then you absolutely need better wiring setup.

I'd never want a continuous load higher than about 2/3's the rating of the fuse and holder.

And if you want good quality blade fuses, go to a junkyard and get them from a cars original fuse box. Most aftermarket stuff is just cheap chinese *****.
Mine came from the Radio Shack, and wasn't a lot of $. Came w/ a carry case, too.

here's a few more choices...

I just went and bought some high quality 40 amp fuses and upon removing the ones that came in my Derale kit I noticed right away that the tangs on the new ones was way thicker than the cheapies. I also checked against the 30 amp ones and the new 30 and 40 were the same thickness with the cheapies being super thin. I could defientely see the entire fuse getting hot and melting the holder without ever blowing the fuse itself. Time will tell if my theory is correct lol.

I've heard of people having issues wiring it that way and initially I was going to do the same but was talked out of it. How long have you been running it that way and do you experience high temps where you live? Cheers.

My fans wouldn't run after awhile hooked up this way. We tried it and the car was getting hot, and turned out the fans weren't running. Wired them up on separate relays using the factory trigger for the high speed and haven't had an issue since.

I wouldn't recommend using the factory wiring.

Not long enough to say whether it does or doesn't have issues.

So far, no issues. But VERY limited time.

Fair enough, I can change it.

2 Brand new Derales in the car I just finished, less than 5 minutes run time, 1 fused melted but the other was fine, cut both out and replaced fuses and fuse holders. Both were wired to the same power source, all connections crimped and soldered.

The weak link seems to be the fuse holder or fuse itself. Ensure the spades where the blade slots into are tight.

Has anyone tested how much current each fan actually draws ?

Figured i'd bump this thread for the hell of it.

Just pulled my fan fuses and they melted, just as everyone else's had.

Looks like I'll be upgrading to breakers as well.
