Intercooler and converter question.. not your typical application.
To start with im building a 5.3/4l60e with 76mm turbo for a rock buggy. This will all be going in a full tube chassis that i will be building. I already have the motor rebuilt and purchased a CXR 76mm Turbo and a few other various odds and ends.
The main uses of this buggy will be rock crawling and an occassional trip to the dunes. It will spend the majority of its time at lower RPM out of boost.
As for intercooler.. im wondering if i can get away without one. For packaging issues id like to mount the turbo directly in front of the intake with just a silicone boot attaching turbo to intake. Thoughts?
Torque converters.. still havent learned the science of this so im asking. I have a chance to get a good Yank 3600 stall converter for $40. How would this work in my application? If no good what should i be looking for. I havent geared axles yet so i will be abke to run anything from 4.10-5.38. Figure i will gear around drivetrain setup.
Any and all thoughts please?
Of course it will also depend how much boost you're aiming to use and the sort of temperatures in which the car will run.
in short, keep the CR's to a safe level, and even moderate boost with no IC wont pose any problems.
Or you could go for one of the A2W heat exchangers that are integrated with the inlet manifold
