Default Billet 80 vs ls3 heads

I would like to get some opinions on what will get me more power from my 370. Either stock 317 heads and ls6 intake with billet 80 upgarde on my s475 or stock 823 heads with ls3 intake and an s475

Are you asking if you should downgrade your heads in order to upgrade your turbo?

I think you should probably use the ls3 heads, personally. Especially if you already have them on your ls3...

There are guys going really fast on 317's and it could be argued that they are better than rect ports in an FI application. What power level are you at now?

I originally had square ports for my forged 370/S480 combo. After speaking to John Bewley of LJMS (soec'd my cam) he talked me out of them. His theory was why run such a large port head and lose the velocity when the turbo is doing the work. For NA sure run them with a monster camshaft but if your forcing air through them whats the difference? Also, the whole "deck thickness" issue was brought up a lot by multiple people I spoke to regarding the square ports. There are people out there making great power like 3pedals, martin @ SRD and Speed Inc's Jim. From what ive seen a lot of people have to drill for larger head studs or fill the block from pushing water in the high HP setups. Mark freidrich went 7.90s with a 403/stock untouched 317s/ls1 intake/s484 fox body. That was reason enough for me just to use the 317s.

I built a 365" ls2 based deal for my top dragster. I filled the block to the deck and filled a set of 317s hand ported them, put good valves and springs in them. I plan on making upwards of 14-1500 crank hp on straight methanol with a set of the new s369sx-e turbos. I think you should upgrade the turbo first.
