Default Thinking about a custom turbo setup. Need some info

sorry so long but please read.

i was going to start restoreing my old 69 camaro next year. i have street raced this car and used it as a daily driver for several years and it is pretty much worn out. i have already made up my mind on how i wanted the body, interior, and chassie to be like for some time. pretty simple, since chevy did an awsome job with it to begin with, i want the body and interior completely stock with as many GM parts as possible. hugger orange with white Z28 stripes (like it already is), cowl hood, rear spoiler, make it a RS/Z28 clone, interor in black and completely like stock. on the rims, well, i cant stand the factory 69 wheels so i was thinking of polished 10 spoke 2002 SS rims, or 35th anaversery rims not really sure yet but thats not what this post is about anyways. my problem is, is that i cant figure out what i want to do to the motor. i have been fighting this for many years now. i have wanted everything from a simple propane powered SBC to a 572ci nitrous big block but i will not get into that here. last night i had a dream that i was driving it down the road and i could hear this wissle comeing from the engine. when i got out and open the hood, i saw a turbo powered LS1 block in it and then i woke up. needless to say, i could not stop thinking about it and never fell back to sleep that night. this would be perfect but i dont now were to start. i have lots of experience with NA and N2O motors in the past with lots of success but never considered a turbo set up. i would want something simple like just one hugh single turbo that can put out 15-20psi. i wont have a problem building a motor to take it (probably a 408 stroker iron motor) so i dont need any help there but i want to know about the rest. it would have to be capable of running low 10s or high 9s and be streetable. let me just write what i want to know down in order.

1. how big of a turbo for my goals (remember i only want one big one and not two little ones or 8 like that 57 chevy hehe.)
2. which injectors.
3. which intercooler (i really dont want to cut up the interior and install a ice chest and intake pipe through it.
4. which way to make the install as simple as possible (i dont want any pretty polished stuff, just stuff that works.)
5. what do i do about headers.
and last off all.
6. how cheap can this be done. (remeber i am a hard core budget guy and can fab up lots of it myself).

let me know what yall think. i cant get this idea out of my head.

taqwache, first check out this thread, this will help somewhat with your turbo choice on a 408, since it was discussed here.

As for our opinion, low 10's or even low 9's, you definitely don't need a 408. Heck a 346ci forged bottom end would do it easily. Next, fueling for a car like that you would need no less then 72 or 83 lb injectors. You can get away with mototron 60's but you will have to bump the FP up. Next the Intercooler, for your goals you don't need a monster W/A setup to cool it. You could get away with a compact setup, or a large air to air system. For the install on a 69, you should have plenty of room to run a large downpipe down either the driver or pass side, so just mount the turbo facing either parallel to the motor or perpendicular to it and run a 90 deg bend coming of the DP side of the turbo. Either way you should have plenty of space.

JZ 97, i only want to go 408 cause i can get an iron block cheaper then a LS1 block, although i might just go with a stock crank instead and go with a 370ci iron motor. eather way i just dont want stock internals. but the block and crank can stay stock if had too. what size of a turbo should i get? like a 70 or 80 something. and also what brand do you think is better for something like this.

1QWIKZ, right now it is dreaming but will become realitly in the future, but it is going to be a long time.

With the smaller cubes, a GT42 with T6 flange would be the best bet for your goal. Just try to run as large a flange as possible. If your stuck running a T4 flange, then I would go with either the PTE-88 or at the very least, the 76GTS or GT42 with T4 flange.
