Default tip for new incon users

My number 8 plug wire started arcing against the incon manifold. It showed up as a misfire on #8 AND #7....I assume #7 showed the misfire because it is right behind #8 in the firing order. Anyway, I installed a new wire and a factory plug wire heat shield. Hopefully that will stop it from happening again. This happened within 30 miles after install so just a heads up...the others seem to have enuff clearance

Ah, #8 on an incon car. It is hard to get plugs and wires installed there. It took me 2 freakin years to fix the botched 'professional' install having to do with #8.

First sympton - #8 misfired at low rpm, but not enough to set codes unless it idled a very long time. Turned out the installer didn't push the plug wire firmly on, and on a trip to the track it came off altogether. The coil terminal was so badly arc'd I had to replace the coil and wire. no biggie.

The car still had a lo rpm misfire that went away as soon as rpm's climbed. Winter of '03 Reckless was giving me a hand changing plugs. #8 would not go in. The verdict - when the 'professional' put in the tr6 plugs, he cross-threaded #8 (of all plugs). We took off the manifold and over the course of a couple days I devised a way to fix the threads without taking the head off. Reckless helped me install the manifold and install the plug which went in perfectly. For the hell of it I A-tapped it...and the constant miss in #8 was cured.

I do virtually all my own work now

Damn!!!! I apologize for bringing up such a bad memory I take my coil packs off to do number 8,,,plus I got skinny arms. Hopefully the little shield will help out.

At least you can get to your number 8 plug to go in without maching the socket and manifold. I clearanced the crap out of the manifold and milled down the plug socket. The socket still rubs on the manifold and it takes forever to get the plug in.
