Default stock rockers on turbo reliability??

Im sure people are running this, but whats the limiting factor on stock 5.3 lifters and 706's/boost? not wanting to replace something that'll get me by until its needed. it will have the ls7 lifters and harden pushrods. the cam isnt determand as of yet, but lift will be in .550 range. itll have the better springs and such. will rev 7000 from time to time on the street.

A bushing or bearing upgrade for the rockers maybe. Some engines **** needle bearings some dont.

Here is a quote from Brian Tooley BTR...

The .62X range is the max I recommend when using stock rockers, which must also be coupled with springs that are under 400 lbs open pressure.

I have pics of valve tips off some LS2 heads that had a complete Comp valve train using .624" lift and 26926 springs. After one year the engine was making noise and the valve tips were chewed up.

The first time I saw this problem was around 2005-2006 when I was involved in durability testing at TFS.

I see heads with chewed up valve tips every other week. It still amazes me at the shops who are selling .650+ lift cams and 450 open pressure springs using stock rockers like it's no problem. On the flip side, it keeps the people who know what's going on busy fixing those problems and selling them the correct parts. Heads with LS7 rockers are not as prone to problems as the 15 degree stuff.

It just sucks to see guys with Corvettes and Camaros that are only a year or two old needing the heads pulled off to replace the valves and needing a cam kit, after they've already bought a cam kit a year or two earlier.

With 706's and .550 lift, you're probably not going to make power up to 7000 RPM, so revving that high won't even be something you'll want to do.
