Default Turbo took a dump.

Yes, as the title says..my turbo died the other day. Didn't lock up, just started spewing oil into the turbine side. Bad thing is, I can't seem to find a rebuild kit....and to top things off Precision doesn't sell them to the public. Anyone have a source for the parts needed to rebuild a 7675?

I just wonder if they spool as fast. This one I have has a billet wheel, but then I wonder if it actually helps spool or not. Being that this one is the only one in familiar with its kinda hard to get rid of it for an unknown.

Was wanting to rebuild it myself, but since I can't find a kit.....not sure what I'm going to do now. And the ebay gt45 isn't going to get it done. I guess I will visit a local diesel shop to see if they can patch the thing up.

http://gpopshop.com/rebuild-kits/ <~ i got mine from these guys YEARS ago for my PTE that took a ****. like others i had felt that i needed a 'quality' product so i bought a brand new name brand (ok, was having issue finding correct sizing i wanted also), and it still ended up biting me in the ***. think it was 10-15k miles. anyway, might hit them up, probably dig up something for you.

just thinking. i bought a PTE 50trim for my Galant that was used, took it apart, had at least 3 rebuild dates written inside the compressor housing/backing plate, wiped out thrust bearing, toasted compressor wheel, compressor housing, and i doubt the backing plate could be used either. just a expensive paper weight...

my Nova will be getting a china turbo from VS. after good success with the china turbo i put on my last Integra i have no issue giving it a try. they have come a long way in the last couple years...

Thanks for the link. Name brand means nothing these days it seems. Not sure I'm opposed to using an off brand unit this go around.

The issue I have is, the compressor side CANNOT be a hair bigger, as I have very little clearance between it and the radiator with this precision. I also need it to be exactly the same length, as I have to force the air cleaner on as it is, because of the bottom radiator hose.... and I don't want to jack around with the downpipe. In other words, I need a turbo the exact same size as this one, if I don't rebuild this precision.

Don't get a 76/65. Get a 78/75. The outside dimensions are going to be really close to the precision.

Yup, the thing only had about 10,000 miles on it. So this morning, I called a couple of diesel shops in town....one said yea we rebuild turbos, what do you have? I told him a precision......immediately said nope can't do it. They have the same problem as everyone else CAN'T GET PARTS. So, I guess now I'm going to have to abandon this thing.

Sorry to hear that man. Is it that they have proprietary parts or something?

Yea, apparently. Decided I would call precision and see what a rebuild would cost. Guy told me "we can get you taken care of, just send it in"....I ask "well, how much is the rebuild as I hate mystery bills" he wouldn't even give me a ballpark figure. I then told him, nah...I'm good. So it looks like I will be ordering a brand new turbo. Not fron precision btw.

Would have told you to run a BW S476 but the compressor side is definitely larger so no go there. You might be stuck with a chinese turbo.

I had the exact same experience. The turbine wheel on my turbo had just came off the shaft and pretty much destroyed everything. Called them, "we'll take care of you." It's still in a box in the basement.

Being that precision is "supposed" to be a quality product, and only got about 10,000 miles out of it.....I'm not exactly opposed to going Chinese. Right now I'm close to pulling the trigger on the on3 7875, just seen that it's supposed to be a drop in replacement physically with the pt76.

Usually what happens in those "just send it in, we will be glad to take care of you" scenarios is....they call you all cheerful and tell you "well we found the problem ,and for being a valued customer we gave you the low price of $1795...credit card number when you are ready".
