Rotella and Valvoline 15w40 in my stock 225+k miles LQ4, no turbo, cold about 60, warm about 35-40 and really warm just above 20psi. Mechanical Autometer gauge at the stock oil pressure port behind the intake.

In my turbo build I will still run 15w40 as it seems to work very well in anything. Its made for diesels which see very high temps and pressures, so it cant hurt. It does have a lot of detergents in it which some people say actually hurt a gas engine, but with so many running it successfully it doesn't seem to be hurting too much.

Also with the above complicated posts, yea, this is rocket engineering. Oil pan and pickup are not going to cause any drops in pressure other than high rpm WOT. This would be due to starvation. Under regular driving, this isn't a problem.

Just stick with the 10w30 Amsoil. 10 psi per 1000rpm is more then enough pressure. I have run 45 psi at 7000 rpm with 5w30 Amsoil that had coolant in it, after that the engine was inspected and the bearings still looked perfect. With my turbo 5.3 I run 10w30 Amsoil Zrod oil and it works with no issue.

You ran 15w40 since 0 miles on the stock engine? For some reason I doubt it. I think you acquired the engine with 10W-30 in it, perhaps around 50-80k, then installed it to your vehicle and put 15W-40 in it for maybe, 20-40k miles so far, and rod bearing #1 is beginning to show signs of cold start wear from using that incredible thick oil. Just a guess on a guess, please elaborate? I hope I am wrong!

Who in this thread said they started running X oil with 0 miles on they're engine?? I guess i must have had one of the first turbo kits ever in an fbody...

Like everybody else is talking about, it was my stock used LS1 with ~115k miles, ran it for another ~15k miles or so and never had a hiccup.... are the bearings worn? probably, the engine is 17 years old and i have no idea what it went through before i bought it..... i was merely sharing an experience

Same here, I will never run anything other than rotella 15w40 in my turbo LS 1xx,xxx miles 5.3 100% stock oil pump and system up to temp idle I have around 44psi, WOT is like 75-80psi.
