Default Retarding timing for building boost at the line?

Still fairly new to turbos but I have seen people mention pulling timing when staged at the line in order to help build boost. I'm wondering what's the thought behind this? I'm planning on using my MSD6010 to set up the 2 step feature along with roll control for my car which is a stick. Then I remembered that he box has a step retard feature allowing you to pull timing for nitrous up to 15 degrees. I'm curious is I could use this on a momentary in conjunction with 2 step to help build boost at the line. Now I haven't ran at the track yet so I don't know what kind of boost I can build at the line as of now. Wondered if anyone else is employing this tactic?
