Silverado and supercharger
I have a 2004 1500 4x4 4L60E 5.3 non flex fuel silverado. Just had a
2300 Magnasun charger put on with the 8psi pulley. Motor is bone stock
when charger went on other than mail order tune. As it sits now, MSD coils, new plugs, wires and heat boots. Electric fans and 34" radiator from a 2006 truck controlled by PCM. Base line was 227hp and post was 345 ish.
Was dyno tuned and street tuned right after by tuner. Shop feels OEM
manifolds and cats are holding it back. Said cat stunk up the joint during
pulls requiring very long cool down after each pull. Kooks long tubes and no cat Y pipe have been recommended. I know she will never be a race truck as that is not what I am after any way. She was a slow pig but I loved her any
way and 227hp explains that. The baseline seems low compared to what I see others get on a 5.3 of about the same year. Could the cats be bad or going bad causing the low baseline? Would the headers and Y pipe hold it
back? Dont want to spend cash where I dont need to but I will spend what I need to spend.
They are much cheaper than the list on Kooks website. I know I have taken the first step
into the "rabbit hole" so to speak so I just want to make good choices to get the most
from what I have. It was a Dynojet brand dyno if it makes a difference.
some tune issues at the moment I need to get sorted out. But I did not expect it to be
perfect in one shot as that is just not the way life works.
