LQ4 help So I have a 99 Silverado with a stock LQ4 that I am going to pull and go through because it's burning oil after 240k+ miles and I'm thinking I'm going to try my luck at building it into a turbo 500rwhp motor to eventually put into a different vehicle after sorting out the tuning and such in the truck. I plan to DD the truck afterwords until I swap it again. Having no experience what so ever with turbos and the process of self tuning I'm looking for all the help I can get. I want to do it as cheap as possible so I am thinking I can get away with leaving it pretty much stock except for adding the turbo getting a cam spec'd for the turbo with new 80lb injectors and a tunable ECU. It has a 4L80 transmission so that should put up with the added HP. I plan on running E85 as it's readily available here in Iowa cheaper than regular pump gas. Any advice or information I can get would be greatly appreciated.
i wouldn't self tune if you've never done it before. Find a shop that can do it, you'll save yourself a lot of frustration and possibly a motor. A cheap ebay turbo or On3 turbo will get you to 500hp easily on a Lq4. If the goal is only 500hp and to do it cheap i wouldn't even bother with a turbo cam and aftermarket ECU, stock parts can get you there easily.
