Blowthru intercooler question

Default Blowthru intercooler question

Switching from nitrous to turbo and will be running the motor in my sig for now. It's around 10.6:1 compression. Plan on running an s480 and a blowthru CSU carb on e85. Should I run an intercooler on this? What would the boost limitations be without the intercooler? I plan on running around 10 psi for now but we all know how that ends up! I'll want more before too long! Thanks

With a carb on e85, you shouldn't be worried about detonation at low boost, but an intercooler could still give benefits. Cooler air is denser air, but this would only add power if you have a very low restriction intercooler, as airflow restriction will partly offset the benefit of a denser air charge. Diesels with no detonation worries use intercoolers, so that says a lot. Us pump gas FI guys are far more interested in the heat removal offered by the intercooler simply as a matter of controlling detonation, but we still benefit from the increased density of the cooler air as well.

Mont. your IAT's, I have run around 190 degs with a blowthru carb on 93 octane and had no problems. With E85 your temps are prob cooler after the carb than pump (93).
